Step into the world of loops, motion and optical illusion! Students think like early animation pioneers as they explore movement, visual rhythm and repetition, then design and build their own working zoetrope — a pre-film device that transforms a sequence of still drawings into moving animation. Inspired by natural systems and science concepts, students brainstorm, move, sketch, experiment with colour and contrast, create a 12-frame animation and finish with a classroom “spin-off” showcase. Designed for Grades 7–8 as a 4-session project, 80 minutes per lesson, and available in English or French Immersion. Curriculum connections: Visual Arts B1, B2, B3 — drawing, animation, line, colour, shape, space, repetition, balance and unity; Dance C1 — body, time, space, direction and movement; and Science and Technology — Grade 7 interactions in the environment and Grade 8 water systems.
