Front Desk at South Windsor School of Music

Thank you for considering the Front Desk employee position at South Windsor School of Music, a vibrant community where music education is made enjoyable and accessible for everyone. As the first point of contact, you will play a crucial role in shaping our welcoming atmosphere.

***This position is funded by Culture Works Canada's Student Work Placement program, it's open to students currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution in a relevant field of study. ***

Start Date: October 2026 
Term: Part Time, 12-15 hrs/week. 

Possible Working Times: Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays 2:30-8pm, Saturdays 8:30am-3pm

Salary: $25/hr

Contract: 315 hours total, must be completed by March 2027.

What you'd be doing:

• Opening and closing the school premises.
• Greeting and assisting clients and teachers, ensuring a smooth flow of daily activities.
• Registering new clients, managing bookings, and handling payment plans.
• Upholding school policies and providing information about our products and services.
• Managing retail sales 
• Creating/scheduling content for social media.
• String changes on guitars & violins.
• Musical instrument maintenance 

You’re probably a match if you have:

• Strong communication skills and a friendly demeanor.
• Basic proficiency with office and social media platforms.
• Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
• Ability to work both in a team environment and independently. 
• A keen interest in arts, particularly music / graphic design.
• Enthusiasm for learning and tackling new challenges.
• Hands-on skills with instruments.

Business Description

South Windsor School of Music provides private one-on-one music instrument lessons, instrument care services and rentals, day camps and group lessons for families in Windsor-Essex. We have a retail store for music books, instruments and supplies. 

Job Description

We are currently seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic contract Music Teachers to teach private lessons to children, youth and adults out of our studio in South Windsor, in the following instruments:

• Guitar
• Drums
• Voice

Job Responsibilities

• Provide an educational, interesting and enjoyable experience of music education for every student.
• Monitor student progress and adjust teaching methods and materials when necessary.
• Encourage and adequately prepare students to participate in South Windsor School of Music recitals and marketing activities, as well as other competitions, festivals, and exams, if appropriate.
• Be prepared and punctual.
• Notify office staff of any student's learning, physical or personal challenges & consult with parents when needed.
• Adhere to school guidelines and policies and attend appropriate staff meetings when possible.
• Request any necessary student materials from the school.
• Mark student attendance.
• Notify office staff of any personal schedule change requests.
• Participate in school marketing activities.
• Maintain school cleanliness. 
• Greet clients and guests and take messages as needed.

• Adaptability & flexibility
• Ability to communicate well with people from all walks of life and from many cultural backgrounds
• Knowledge of different approaches to teaching music
• Ability to teach various styles of music
• Criminal record check
• Proven skills training
• Experience working with children is considered an asset
• Teaching experience is considered an asset
• Post-secondary education in music is considered an asset
• Familiarity with music festivals such as Kiwanis is considered an asset
• Familiarity with Royal Conservatory of Music if applicable
