What happens to a space when the lights go down, the surfaces start to shine, or the sounds get louder? Students explore light and sound through a series of mixed-media scenes, transforming everyday spaces from a glowing living room and reflective restaurant to a house that flips from day to night, before bringing everything together in a final stage collage. Designed for Grade 4 as a 4-session project, 90 minutes per lesson. Curriculum connections: Science — light sources, reflection, absorption, shadow, sound waves, vibration and how materials affect light and sound; Visual Arts — value, colour, space and emphasis, using contrast, warm/cool colour, intensity, layering, overlap, placement, focal point and mixed-media materials to communicate ideas.
