Pick up a ukulele and let’s play! Students learn a contemporary song while building real musicianship skills from the ground up — first finding notes on the staff and instrument, then reading and performing rhythm and melody, learning beginner C, F and G chords, and finally combining melody and accompaniment in a full-class ensemble. Designed for Grades 6–7 as a 4-session project, approximately 80–90 minutes per lesson. Curriculum connections: Music C1.1, C1.4, C1.5, C2.2, C3.1, with a focus on pitch, standard notation, rhythm, form, harmony, I–IV–V chord progressions, duration, dynamics, ensemble performance, musicianship and the relationship between music, media and personal/cultural identity.
