Meet Pip, a tiny caterpillar with one very big garden adventure ahead! Students follow Pip as he eats, grows, hides from danger and transforms, using origami-inspired construction, observational drawing, shadow play and collage to tell his story through art. Designed for Grades 2, 3, & 4 as a 4-session project, 80 minutes per lesson, with seasonal variations using real garden specimens in fall/spring or photographic references in winter. Curriculum connections: Science B2.1, B2.2, B2.5, B2.6 and Visual Arts, exploring animal and plant needs, growth and change, habitat, human impact, colour, scale, shadow, placement, observational drawing, collage and movement.
