Come spend a sunny musical weekend with Pouf! Students follow Pouf through his neighbourhood, to the river, into the forest and finally under the moon, singing French-Canadian children’s songs, moving, playing instruments and solving musical challenges along the way. Each adventure introduces a new layer of musical understanding, from steady beat and fast/slow to high/low, quiet/loud, rhythmic patterns, Do–Re–Mi and simple notation, before students bring everything together to create and perform music of their own. Designed for Grade 1 French Immersion as a 4-session project, 70 minutes per lesson. Curriculum connections: Music C1.2, C1.5, C3.2 — steady beat, quarter and eighth notes, quarter rest, 4/4 metre, rhythmic ostinato, pitch, dynamics, tempo, melody and musical symbols; and Mathematics B1.7, C1.2, C1.3, E2.2, A1 — patterns, equal parts, measurement and creative thinking.
